Today’s lesson continued from The Bible Jesus Read by Philip Yancey. Everyone paid close attention lest we were quizzed by Doc/Teacher Julie! Wonder why we should read the Old Testament? It gives us a unified account through thousands of pages of not only history, but the way in which God wants us to live. Here the OT chronicles the dialogue between God and man. In the OT can be found one of the saddest verses in the Bible- “God was grieved in His heart that he made man”. Genesis members tackled (with much finesse!) many of the names of heroes, villains, saints, and sinners. The Old Testament shows us how time and time again that God’s grace and mercy gives humans hope and a new start. This common theme shines throughout the OT. We tend to forget this promise of hope. Sometimes our lives get bogged down with remembering the negative slivers, not the gifts of happiness that God constantly provides. Continue reading the OT. Not only will you read about sorrow and despair, but will discover many examples of forgiveness and hope. For those who want a head start on next week’s lesson, read the Book of Job.

Until then…
