Lesson

8/5/07
Julie gave another great lesson this week. Thank you Julie.
Habit # 5 from 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families
Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood
The 7 questions or ideas that were discussed during the lesson were:
1-How do we see the world?
Exposure, roles as a person, friends, finance, our experiences, age or generations
2-Seeking to understand – The Fundamental Deposit
Should be a cohesive style of raising our children so the children are not confused about the rules or boundaries
3-Psychologic Air (giving each other room to grow)
You make the effort to interact so appreciate the worth of each other.
4-Negative Baggage
Overcoming anger and offense
5-Faithful Translator
Jesus loved everyone. He seeked out those who needed saving.
There are 5 types of listeners: Emphatic listening, Attentive listening, Pretend listening, Selective listening, and Ignoring completely.
What type of listener are you?
6-Initially you should not judge, advise, probe or interpret. We should use sincere listening to the other without judging.
7-Seek to Understand
We should seek to understand Jesus and one another so we can teach and influence others as Christians.
