Julie led about fifty of us in discussing the Book of Hebrews. She is using a book by Max Lucado as a guide. If you would like a copy of the book, please let Julie know. The Book of Hebrews was written around A.D. 70 before the destruction of the temple. The author is unknown, but we do know that it was written to address the Jewish Christians. There are many references to Old Testament rituals. The author relays to these Jewish Christians the change from the Old Covenant (fearfulness and strict obedience to God) to the New Covenant (enter Jesus Christ). After the resurrection of Christ, these people no longer have to have the blessing of high priests and can discontinue sacrifices. Jesus Christ is now their mediator to God’s grace. The first four verses of the Book of Hebrews are thought by some to be the most beautifully written section of the Bible. These verses give a vivid account of Christ as being heir and creator of the universe—an exact representation of God and our powerful Redeemer who sits at the right hand of God Almighty. Jesus is described as being superior to all of the angels! (The Book of Hebrews really puts angels in their place.) Hebrews warns us of five things that could cause Christians to lose focus of salvation. Today’s warning: Pay attention! Don’t drift astray and be enslaved by worldly items. Put your whole trust in our Lord and Savior. A relationship with Jesus is mandatory for eternal life!

Coming soon…warnings 2-5!

Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day!
