Lesson

9/30/07
I mistakenly wrote in my last update that Julie was starting our new book today. That will begin NEXT week, and will cover the next 8 weeks. Just Walk Across the Room by Bill Hybel is the name of the book. Copies of the book and study guides are available in the Genesis classroom. If you’d like to prepare for next week, read Part I, which covers sections 1 and 2.

Today was the last lesson that Julie delivered on The Book of Hebrews (really, this time!) For those that would like a recap of these lessons, see below:

*Chapter 1- beautiful passage of God’s ultimate soveigntry
*Chapter 2- Jesus offering salvation and brotherhood to all
*Chapter 3- describes the importance of how we can enter the sanctity of God’s peace
*Chapter 4- tells of the perfect sacrifice and the approachability of Jesus Christ
*Chapter 5- Jesus’ obedience to God on the cross
*Chapter 6- warns us not to turn our backs on what we know is true
*Chapter 7- the differences between the old and new covenants; sacrifices no longer necessary
*Chapter 8- the intimate fellowship that is possible with God; the incredible gift that is offered to us
*Chapter 10- the ultimate perfection of Christ.

Today, Julie discussed chapters 12 and 13. Our journey of faith is more like a marathon than a sprint! Some of us at times may be tempted to give up the race instead of persevering because of persecution or hardships that are thrown our way. God provided a “crowd of faith” (those old-time Biblical heroes) as inspiring examples. Mercifully, God is not only willing to forgive our sins and transgressions, but will forget them as well!

Continue to seek God’s salvation by trudging through that relentless marathon we call life. Live in Christian maturity and don’t turn away from our Creator. Keep focusing on the heavenly, eternal reward!

Live well,
Beth
